The laundry site that could. Nothing deters Henkel’s Laundry & Home Care manufacturing team from getting the job done. Learn more in this segment of #AViewFrom: Salt Lake City, UT.
Situated beneath seven beautiful mountain ranges, Henkel’s 600,000 sq. ft. Salt Lake City (SLC) plant runs around the clock to produce liquid and powder laundry detergents and dish soaps destined for customers in the United States. The employees here are a resilient, passionate group who keep production top of mind.
The can-do attitude is incredible. Every challenge that has come our way gets fully confronted, and then a solution is developed and knocked out of the park. Motivation to be the best, a clear understanding of Henkel’s vision and employee empowerment are the ingredients for success. It’s contagious.
Andy Riddick, Director of Site Operations at SLC
The SLC facility, first established in 1974, became part of Henkel with the company’s acquisition of Sun Products in 2016. The facility now employs over 330 employees, and over $40 million of investments in efficiency-enhancing systems and sustainability initiatives have led to record product quality and significant resource conservation. Henkel Laundry & Home Care brands including all®, Snuggle® and Sun® are produced at the site.
SLC employees have a strong sense of community and regularly participate in local service initiatives including school supply and food bank donations, blood drives, the Salvation Army Angel Tree, Arbor Day tree plantings, and Bike MS to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Salt Lake City employees participated in Henkel Volunteer Day at Wasatch Community Gardens, an urban garden organization that provides low-cost garden space, educational programs and community events to empower people to grow, harvest, preserve, and prepare fresh, healthy food.
As one of the most diverse Henkel North America sites, SLC staff represents over 55 countries with more than 25 languages spoken. Training initiatives and advancement opportunities are plentiful, and many of the site’s employees have worked at the facility for more than 15 years.
“This site is in full operation 24/7 across production, warehousing and distribution,” comments Senior Manager of HR and Training, Eric Walters. “It’s the energy and the diverse mix of people here that make Henkel’s SLC site a great place to work. At every level, open communication and transparency are the norms. Management is always out on the floor and the teamwork here is palpable.”
